Frequently Asked Questions
- What's a digital painting?
- Its a painting made in a computer ,without the the hassles of the messy tools (in the real world) like colors, oil, etc.
Sometimes called a Virtual painting, it's a computer based interpretation of certain images , painted by hand using a graphic tablet and other tools in digital technology. This technique uses the same process as a true oil or acrylic painting, but uses the computer instead of a traditional paintbrush and canvas.
The whole image will be completely repainted using the original photograph as a guide for the painted interpretation. Once the image has undergone the virtual painting process you will receive the portrait as a TIFF or JPG available online via FTP and/or email. Heavy canvas is the recommended printing medium for oils. Archival watercolor paper, or giclee paper is recommended for watercolors.
- These paintings are just made with filters?
- Definitely Not! Rommel hand paints each stroke using a pressure sensitive wacom tablet and custom-made digital brush variants. No shortcuts are used, no filters, or programs that automatically "paints" the image. The process is time consuming, and custom tailored to meet your needs. The virtual interpretations are painted using the same traditional techniques as a true oil painting.
- What are your services?
- We offer digital paintings to the professional photographer, and offers extensive retouching, artistic retouching, digital collages, restoration work, design. We also do trainings in Photoshop and Painter. If you have an odd retouching request that others can not fix, send it to Rommel.
- My images are faded, will you color correct my image?
- Yes. If and when necessary, Rommel will color correct the image, and there is no additional fee. Included also are: cropping, three emailed test prints, spacial additions (within reason) for cropping, some object removal, artistic retouching and enhancement, and some clothing changes.
- I only have a client's snapshot? Can you paint it?
- Yes. If your client provides you with a 4x5 of good quality, it can be scanned, and painted for printing up to a 16x20 in most cases. The larger the print, the larger possibilities for the reproduction. If the image only needs color correction, and basic retouching (scratch removal) then it falls under "retouching." If they would like to have it painted, then it falls under a digital painting interpretation. The photograph does not have to be from a formal studio. Please call or email us for a complimentary consultation on what can be done to your client's snapshot. Please note that the photographer assumes all responsibity for copyright of the submitted images. If you are submitting a photograph that was taken at a different studio, you are responsible for gaining permission for reprinting.
- I want bulk basic retouching for weddings, families, and school portraits. Can you do it?
- Yes. For more information, email info@rommelbundalian.com. Bulk rates are available.
- What file sizes do you accept?
- As we do not offer scanning, you must submit a disc of your file or upload it via FTP. It is recommended that you do not send the original. You can mail it, FTP it, or email it to info@rommelbundalian.com. Size your image to at least an 8x10 at 300 dpi for 16x20s or smaller. Size it to a 10x12.5@300 dpi for 24x30s, or size your image to 10x15 at 300 dpi for a 30x40. These sizes gives us play room with the images. The exact dimensions should be your size x 100 dpi. We accept RAW, TIFFs, and high resolution JPEGs. Only JPEGs may be submitted via email.

- Are there going to be patches of original photograph showing through on my final image?
- No. Every stroke is repainted. The portrait will have a consistent painted look.
- Won't a painted interpretation change how the subjects look?
- No. We are very careful to preserve the character of the subject. If your client chooses to have a retouched look, the final image will still maintain their character.
